On Lakes Aviemore and Benmore trout and salmon can be fished all year round except September. Fishing on Lake Waitaki and the local rivers is available from October through April.

Sea fishing is also a popular pastime with blue cod, whitebait, mussels, paua and crayfish readily available off the coast of Oamaru and Moeraki. Contact the Oamaru Visitor Information Centre to find out about fishing charters offered by experienced local guides.
