Waitaki Development Board

Tourism

Tourism has flourished in recent years in the Waitaki District. If we maintain our current market share, expenditure is expected to grow to $177million by 2011, bringing an additional $50million to the local economy.

Tourism creates jobs, attracts new investment, enhances local pride, leads to improved public facilities and makes the preservation of cultural heritage possible.

There are currently 82 accommodation providers, 87 businesses operating tourist attractions and activities, 14 businesses providing transport & tours and six providing information services for visitors.

Unique Attractions
The Waitaki District is renowned for its magical scenery, open spaces and diverse landscapes. From natural wonders such as the Moeraki Boulders and Elephant Rocks to our built heritage and spectacular hydro dams, the Waitaki District offers something for everyone. And we have the mighty Waitaki River.
